Bees and ants
At dusk, I notice how much
I’ve changed – how happy I am
to let Mother Nature in,
to take a seat to my left
and usher her children home.
There are bees in the chimney
and ants beneath the patio,
spiders in the kitchen,
dwelling outside each window
or weaving gossamer thread
through the sansevieria,
and moths are welcome too;
lying low in the bathroom
or above the stairs.
All around me life stirs –
minute and unwavering
and I realise how much I want
this life to last;
to watch each creature,
each sunrise to sunset,
each passing of the seasons
from green to red to gold.
